"Color on the body, head, ears, feet and top of tail is to be a creamy beige, carried well down toward the skin. Eye circles, inside of ears, underside of tail, and belly are to be white. Eyes: Blue-gray."

Orange, A_B_C_D_ee +++

Frosty, A_B_ c(chd)_ D_ee
A Frosty is the same as a Chinchilla, EXCEPT that the Chinchilla has Full Extension (E), and a Frosty is non-extension (ee). "Color is to be light pearl, as even as possible. When blowing into the coat, a slight ring may appear at the tip of the hair shaft. Slightly darker tint on nose, ears, legs, and feet is permissible. Belly color and undercolor is to be light pearl to white. White on underside of tail IS permitted. Eyes: Brown or Blue-gray."

Red, A_B_C_D_ee ww +++++
Color is to be a bright reddish sorrel, but not so dark as to reach mahogany red. Color shall carry as deep down the hair shaft as possible. The belly color may be somewhat lighter in shade, approaching a deep creamy cast. White on the underside of the tail IS permitted. Eyes: Brown."

Harlequin & Tri-colors

Harlequin's are NOT showable. Tri-Colors are shown as Brokens and are listed as a separate group within the ARBA SOP. I put them here temporarily. Their solid harli counterpart is shown to help better identify the color. A proper harli/tri can have several combinations of genes in the A- and E-series: A_e(j)_, a(t)_e(j)e(j) or aae(j)e(j). Because of this, I will only show the B- C- and D- series combinations in the colors below.

Holland Lop Colors

Even though this is the 'Wide Band GROUP' that does NOT mean all of these rabbits are GENETIC wide bands (ww)! Only the Red variety is to be genetically wide band. Conversely, any color CAN be wide band, as it is a separate gene, but the banding (if agouti) in the hairshaft would not be correct to fit the SOP.

Genetics of the WIDE BAND GROUP Colors

ALL WIDE BAND GROUP colors are ALWAYS a minimum of "A_", "C_" or "c(chd)_", and "ee".

An ORANGE is: A_B_C_D_ee. A Cream is the dilute or Orange, so it's genotype is easy to figure out: A_B_C_ddee.

REDS are genetically the same as Oranges EXCEPT that they also have the recessive wide-band gene "ww". DO NOT confuse the wide-band gene with the Wide-Band Color Group. They are not one-in-the-same. A RED is A_B_C_D_ee ww. REDS also have rufus modifiers which intensify the red coloring. This is generally denoted with up to five plus signs. So, a really deep red could be denoted as A_B_C_D_ee ww +++++.

Orange, reds and creams can be Black or Chocolate. Chocolate based Oranges, reds and creams tend to have cleaner color/less smutt.

A FROSTY is just a non-extension Chinchilla: A_B_c(chd)_D_ee.

The gene that gives us the Tri's and Harli's is "e(j)", Japanese brindling. It can be a sneaky gene. It is a false statement to say or assume that a harli/tri is "A". A proper Tri/Harli can be made several ways: aae(j)e(j), a(t)-e(j)e(j), or A-e(j)-. If self or otter are in play, two copies of the harli gene are required, otherwise they are considered "torted". However, if using "A", only one copy of e(j) is needed.

Only one copy of the e(j) gene is needed to appear harliquinized, however. So, a rabbit that is aae(j)e will appear harli, but will be what is called 'torted'.

The harli gene is incompletely dominant. It hides recessively in a 'self' situation, aaEe(j) - the rabbit would appear self in this scenario. However, A_Ee(j) the rabbit will likely appear as a harliquized Agouti, having alternating dark patches showing up most readily on the belly of the rabbit.
